Alfakheet School by Hamdan Huraini
When the students of Al-Fakhit School wake up every morning and get ready to go to school, fear and terror arise in their hearts. They know that any day, the Israeli occupation, along with its equipment and forces, could arrive in order to demolish their school and destroy their right and dream of education and their normal life like students of the world.
Al-Fakhit Basic Mixed School in Masafer Yatta was established in 2009. Most of the 120 students are from the villages of Masafer Yatta.
Until recently, the school was a place where the student feels safe and can obtain their education without fear or a sense of danger. Beyond their homes, the school was the only place where the student feels safe and secure within its walls.
However now, the Al-Fakhit School is under threat of demolition by the Israeli occupation. If the occupation demolishes the school, it will prevent students from obtaining the right to education and force many to drop out of school entirely. Education is a human right for every student in the entire world.
How can a student who is not yet seven or eight live such difficulties and dangers that threaten his home and school? How can he dream of a bright future or even live his childhood, which is one of his most fundamental rights?
I asked a 12-year-old student, “do you know that your school is subject to demolition in an instant and there is a high possibility that you will lose your school?”.
“Yes,” he replied, before continuing: “I was born and raised in these circumstances, and fear lives in my heart. I grew up, and terror and fear of tomorrow grew with me. Every day, I saw my father watching the road for fear of the Israeli occupation coming and demolishing our house. When I see my school each morning, I am terrified it will be for the last time. When I come to school, I look towards the road to see if there are Israeli occupation forces coming or present in the area.”
Living and growing with pain and losing hope makes you live as a body without a soul. What you see when you look to the future is darkness and blackness. There is no future in light of this terrorism against everything Palestinian
